I had a comment from fellow blogger Adam who is a recycling officer that mentioned Nappies.

Nappies are one of my biggest green dilemmas. When my little one was born I was determined to use cloth nappies. I did loads of research and bought a set (well, overall they are cheaper and they have an e-bay resale value!). When my last baby was born off we went with the cloth nappy regime but it was soon apparent that he was a thirsty little soul and therefore needed a lots more 'absorbancy' than my nappies had, so I bought another complete set of a different type.

Having been worried about all the washing and drying and whole nappy cleaning experience, in fact this was no problem. I did have to buy a (plastic) bin for them but if you add tea tree oil it doesn't smell. Also, I did have to partially dry them in the drier (which got a bit of a shock because I don't usually use it at all) otherwise they were really scratchy.

Nappy held well and washing OK (even my childminder got the hang of the whole regime)- what could go wrong? Nappy rash, quite badly, all the time. I could change him more often or wash differently but we learnt to live with it. After 9 months we went on holiday for 2 weeks and took 'biodegradable disposables'. His nappy rash cleared up completely.

And that was that. So I use biodegradable disposables and have to learn to live with myself.

BTW do you think that when Tony Blair says 'science will sort out the climate change issues' he means in the same way it sorts out Cancer and Aids??
