On Tuesday the 'environmental club' children from the local infants school came over to my allotment. In the pouring rain they planted some onions and asked some great questions.
Today the school (which I have no children attending at the moment) had a 'ground force day' - with everyone involved in clearing the grounds, planting pots and generally making the place look nicer - so I turned up to help. Luckily it was a beautiful day today and all the kids got involved with digging and sweeping. I had posted a 'want' on freecycle and someone had kindly given a load of big pots. The school had raised some money and bought some pots and plants.
After a day of sweeping, planting, digging and washing down outside stuff, it looked lovely. They managed to get lots of adult helpers, aided by the sunny weather, and everyone got stuck in.
I helped out because it is a small school and therefore parents get asked to donate things constantly. My eldest is currently in a bigger school where they seem to have everything sorted - I do things for them as well, but I think the smaller schools need a bit more help.

We do that at our school regularly as well, it is nice getting the kids involved.
